Science Core Curriculum

Year 7

All students from September 2008 will be following a new 2 year KS3 course.

This course will be based on existing QCA Units and How Science Works.

Topics covered in Year 7 are on the following areas, this is then followed by an end of unit test.

• Cells and reproduction
• Digestion and respiration
• Ecology and the environment
• Acids, alkalis and chemical reactions
• States of matter and solutions
• Atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures
• Energy resources and electricity
• Heating and cooling
• Light and sound

Key Stage 3 Science

Year 8

Students are taught based on QCA units

Students will carry out various Key stage 3 tests to determine their GCSE groups in Year 9.  All students start their Science GCSE's in Year 9.

Topics covered in Year 8 are on the following areas, this is then followed by an end of unit test.

• Variation and inheritance
• Staying healthy
• Plants and photosynthesis
• Chemistry and the environment
• Metal reactivity series
• Rock cycle and weathering
• Forces, gravity and space
• Electricity and magnetism
• Speed, pressure and moments
