Year 10 Football Match Report

Norlington Year 10 continued their impressive start to the Waltham Forest Borough League with a convincing 5–0 victory over Holy Family, making it two wins from two games.

The first half was a much tighter contest than the final scoreline suggests. We started brightly and created several clear chances, with the boys unlucky not to be two or three goals ahead within the opening ten minutes, even hitting the crossbar at one point.

Musa Raza was causing plenty of problems down the right wing as usual, but some last ditch defending and excellent saves from the Holy Family goalkeeper kept us from finding the breakthrough. At the other end, Leonard Switala produced a brilliant fingertip save to tip the ball over the bar and keep the score at 0–0.

Just as it looked like we would head into half time goalless, Kojo produced a phenomenal turn to get away from the last defender before being brought down inside the box for a penalty. Isa Dustagheer stepped up and calmly converted with the final kick of the half to give us a 1–0 lead.

Despite being ahead, the boys were disappointed not to have scored more with the chances we had created. However, they came out firing in the second half and quickly put the game beyond Holy Family with three goals in quick succession.

Kojo scored twice, showing great determination and perseverance to get himself on the scoresheet, while Isa added his second of the game with a brilliant run from deep in midfield before firing a shot from outside the box. Adam Abbas then added a fifth after Ayhem’s effort struck the crossbar.

There were some excellent performances across the pitch. Oliver was outstanding at right back and barely put a foot wrong throughout the game, while Ayhem worked tirelessly in midfield, gliding through the centre of the pitch with some lovely footwork and composure on the ball.

Man of the Match was Kojo, who led the line brilliantly. Not only did he score twice and win the penalty, but his work rate was exceptional, constantly tracking back and defending for the team like his life depended on it. A fantastic all round performance from him.

Overall, another really good team performance and a deserved victory. We could have scored plenty more, but keeping a clean sheet and making it two wins from two is a great way to start our league campaign.

Final score: Norlington 5–0 Holy Family

Goals: Kojo x2, Isa Dustagheer x2, Adam Abbas

Two games played, two wins, nine goals scored and just one conceded. A great start to the season with three league fixtures still to come.
