Year 10 Football Match Report
Norlington Year 10 got their London Cup campaign off to a flying start with an entertaining 6–2 victory over Heartlands High School, with Kojo grabbing a hat-trick and goalkeeper Leonard Switala producing two assists in a game full of action.
Norlington started brightly, moving the ball around confidently and creating several early chances, but struggled to find the finishing touch. Heartlands nearly made us pay, striking the post early on as we survived a scare to keep the scores level.
Musa Raza was once again causing all sorts of problems down the right wing, using his pace to get past defenders, and testing the goalkeeper on several occasions. Eventually, our pressure paid off when some neat work from Kojo set up Ayhem, who finished well to give us a 1–0 lead.
Heartlands continued to threaten, hitting the woodwork twice more, but it was Norlington who struck again. This time, Leonard Switala picked out Kojo with a brilliant pass from his own goal, and our striker made no mistake with the finish. An assist from the goalkeeper is certainly not something you see every day, and Leonard made sure everyone knew about it!
Just before half time came the goal of the game. Musa picked up the ball on the right, beat several defenders with his electric pace and produced a fantastic finish from a tight angle to send us into the break 3–0 ahead.
The second half started with a lapse in concentration as Heartlands pulled one back and began putting us under pressure. George Burns was excellent in the number six role, sitting just in front of the defence and working tirelessly to break up attacks and keep Heartlands at bay.
Kojo soon restored our three-goal advantage, capitalising on a defensive mistake to make it 4–1. Ayhem then added his second after intercepting a stray pass near the halfway line, driving towards goal before producing a lovely dinked finish over the goalkeeper.
Heartlands refused to give up and scored a superb free kick from just outside the box to make it 5–2, but Norlington had one final goal left in them.
With virtually the last kick of the game, Leonard launched another long ball forward to find Kojo through on goal. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Kojo calmly chipped the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick and seal a 6–2 victory. Two assists for Leonard and a hat-trick for Kojo!
There were some fantastic performances across the pitch, particularly from Adam Abbas on the left and Ayhem in midfield, who contributed two goals and worked tirelessly throughout.
However, Man of the Match went to George Burns, who was outstanding in defensive midfield. He was everywhere, marshalling the defence, breaking up attacks, and helping us move forward with some excellent passing. A brilliant all-round performance.
Overall, a great attacking display from the boys, although there are certainly areas to improve defensively. Six goals, some excellent individual performances and, most importantly, a place in the next round of the London Cup!
Final Score: Norlington 6–2 Heartlands High School
