Venue: Leyton County Ground
Norlington’s Year 7 football team produced an outstanding performance against George Mitchell at Leyton County Ground, securing a convincing 7–0 victory through excellent teamwork, technical quality and attacking intent.
The boys made an exceptionally strong start, quickly asserting their dominance against our local rivals George Mitchell. Norlington’s ability to retain possession, spread the play into wide areas and create space consistently caused problems for the opposition. The quality of the passing and movement allowed the boys to take control of the game, with goals arriving at regular intervals.
Norlington went into half-time with a commanding 5–0 lead, with Mohamed Mansaray already completing a superb first-half hat-trick.
The second half proved more challenging in terms of maintaining the ruthlessness shown before the break. At times, the boys became a little too individual in their approach, missing opportunities to build on their excellent first-half performance. However, they continued to create chances, kept a clean sheet and added two further goals to complete an emphatic 7–0 victory.
Mohamed Mansaray was clinical in front of goal, finishing with four goals to take the match ball and earn the Man of the Match award. His composure and finishing ability proved decisive in a dominant Norlington display.
Osman Shinwari was also outstanding and gave Mansaray a strong challenge for the award. Delivering a commanding performance at centre-back, Osman demonstrated excellent defensive awareness, won numerous aerial battles and provided a solid foundation for the team. He also scored a phenomenal headed goal from a corner, timing his run perfectly before powering the ball into the net. His defensive qualities and commanding presence earned him the title of “Gabriel”, a fitting recognition of his performance.
Leon Andrzejewski and Humayal Hussain also found the net, completing the scoring alongside Mansaray and Shinwari.
Overall, this was a fantastic team performance, showcasing the boys’ technical ability, attacking quality and defensive organisation. While there are lessons to take from the second half, particularly the importance of remaining composed and continuing to play as a team, the players should be extremely proud of their efforts.
