Norlington School U15 vs Ilford County High School U15
Norlington School exited the Essex Cup in the first round following a tough contest against a strong Ilford County High School side.
Having won the toss, Norlington elected to bowl first. There were positive spells with the ball, particularly from Haadi K, who picked up four wickets, and Yahya F, who bowled with good control. However, a lack of consistency in the field proved costly. Missed chances, extras, and lapses at key moments allowed Ilford County High to build momentum and post a competitive total of 151 all out in 20 overs. With sharper fielding and greater concentration, Norlington could have significantly reduced the opposition’s score and put themselves in a far stronger position.
In reply, Norlington struggled from the outset against disciplined and penetrating bowling. Wickets fell regularly, preventing any sustained partnerships from developing. Despite the difficult circumstances, Husnain A produced an outstanding innings, scoring 38 from just 24 balls, striking the ball cleanly and showing real intent under pressure. Unfortunately, he received little support from the rest of the batting order, with the side eventually dismissed for 76 in 12.3 overs.
The result highlighted the need for greater resilience when the game gets tough. As a team, Norlington must take more collective responsibility both in the field and with the bat to compete effectively at this level. While the outcome was disappointing, the match provided a valuable learning opportunity, and the focus now shifts to responding positively, improving consistency, and applying these lessons in future fixtures.
