Norlington U13 vs Redden Court
Norlington U13 were narrowly defeated in a closely contested encounter, falling just short against Redden Court in a thrilling finish.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, Norlington found themselves under early pressure with a wicket in the opening over. However, they recovered well through a crucial partnership between Azaan and Yahya, who steadied the innings and built a solid platform. Azaan played an excellent innings of 30 from 37 balls, while Husnain added further momentum in the middle order with an aggressive 30 off just 26 deliveries, including two sixes.
Despite this positive work, regular wickets in the latter stages disrupted Norlington’s flow. A cluster of quick dismissals meant they were unable to fully capitalise on their promising position, eventually finishing on 119 for 8 from their 20 overs just short of a highly competitive total.
With the ball, Norlington made an excellent start. Azaan struck with the very first delivery to remove a key batter, setting the tone early. The team also created further opportunities through sharp fielding, including multiple run-outs that kept Redden Court under pressure. Husnain was particularly effective, claiming 2 wickets for 12 runs and maintaining strong control through his spell.
However, one standout innings proved decisive. Redden Court’s Riley Lester played a remarkable knock, scoring 52 from just 21 balls and shifting the momentum of the game. Despite Norlington’s efforts to pull things back with late wickets, Redden Court reached 121 for 7 in 17.1 overs.
Overall, it was a strong and competitive performance with plenty of positives. The team showed resilience with both bat and ball, but small moments particularly in key phases of the game made the difference. With a bit more composure in the closing stages, the result could easily have gone the other way.
Key Performances:
- Husnain: 2 wickets for 12 runs and 30 (26 balls)
- Azaan: 30 runs and 1 wicket (including a wicket with the first ball)
A hard-fought match that will provide valuable learning moving forward, with plenty to build on as the competition continues.
