Norlington U13 vs UCS U13A
Norlington’s London Cup journey came to an end at the semifinal stage following a hard-fought contest against a strong UCS side, who secured a 17-run victory.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Norlington made a positive start by controlling the scoring in the early overs. UCS were restricted to 111 for 6 from their 20 overs, with wickets falling at regular intervals to prevent any sustained momentum. Their innings was led by a very mature left-handed batsman, who scored 36, but disciplined spells across the Norlington attack kept things tight. Hasnain Aziz was particularly effective with 2 wickets for 15 runs, while Yusuf Iqbal, Azaan Ali and Yahya Fasih Khan each contributed with a wicket.
In response, Norlington built a solid platform through Haadi Ali Akbar, who top scored with a composed 37. However, just as the innings was developing, UCS applied pressure through their bowling, with a UCS bowler taking four key wickets to turn the momentum. Norlington were eventually bowled out for 94, falling 17 runs short despite a competitive performance.
Having fallen short against a very strong UCS side, Norlington were left to regroup quickly as attention turned to the 3rd place play off. The defeat was a difficult one to take, particularly given how close the group had come to earning a place in the final against Alleyn’s. With Alleyn’s overcoming Robert Clack in the other semifinal, Norlington were set to face familiar opposition once again.
There was clear disappointment within the group, knowing that a strong opportunity to reach the final had slipped away. However, the focus shifted towards finishing the competition with pride, as efforts were made to lift the players emotionally and reset ahead of the final fixture.
