Norlington U15 vs Eastbrook U15

On a rain-affected afternoon, this London Cup fixture was reduced to 15 overs per side in the hope of securing a result. Eastbrook won the toss and elected to bat first, but Norlington quickly asserted themselves as strong favourites.

Norlington made an excellent start with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, immediately putting Eastbrook under pressure. Early breakthroughs from Isa Dustagheer and Yahya Faish Khan set the tone, with Yahya finishing with two key wickets.

The standout performance came from Govind V, who delivered a superb spell of 3 wickets for just 3 runs, dismantling the middle order and ensuring Eastbrook never built any meaningful momentum.

Norlington’s effective rotation of bowlers, combined with the overall depth of the squad, kept Eastbrook contained throughout. The team showed strong tactical awareness, making full use of all available options in the shortened format. The only area for improvement was the number of extras conceded, which allowed Eastbrook to remain competitive for longer than they should have.

In response, Norlington approached the chase with composure and control. Yahya Faish Khan (28)* anchored the innings well, supported by Abdullah Hussain (12), who helped build a steady platform.

Despite losing two wickets, Norlington were always in control, with Haadi Ali Akbar (10)* finishing the game calmly alongside Yahya, sealing victory with over four overs to spare.

While the chase was comfortable, this match highlighted an important area for development: strike rate.

In shorter formats of cricket, such as T20s and reduced overs matches, it is crucial that batters score at a strike rate well over 100. While rotating the strike is important, to compete at the highest level players must consistently look to put pressure on the opposition by finding boundaries and scoring at a higher tempo.

Going forward, we need to be more proactive in our scoring—converting good balls into scoring opportunities and capitalising on anything loose. Playing with greater intent will ensure we can dominate stronger opposition and prevent games from drifting.
