Norlington Vs Heathcote School
Norlington Year 9s competed in the Waltham Forest League semi-final after school yesterday against Heathcote School. Having been knocked out at the semi-final stage last year, the boys were determined to go one step further this season and they delivered a dominant performance.
Norlington started the game strongly. Leo opened the scoring with six points, while Ahmed added four early baskets. Although Heathcote managed to get on the scoreboard from the free-throw line, Norlington closed the first quarter in firm control at 12–1.
The second quarter saw an outstanding defensive display from the whole team, with Owais once again excelling at the heart of Norlington’s defence. Heathcote were restricted to very few scoring opportunities, while Norlington began to find real rhythm in attack. Leo was particularly influential, scoring a further 12 points as the team went into half-time with a commanding 32–10 lead.
The momentum continued into the third quarter, with Norlington executing effective fast breaks and moving the ball well. Ahmed capitalised on this with three consecutive lay-ups, extending the lead further. The boys maintained their intensity throughout the fourth quarter, finishing the game strongly with 20 points to secure an emphatic 62–20 victory.
With this win, Norlington have now qualified for the Waltham Forest League Final, which will take place either next week or in the first week after half term.
This was an excellent all-round team performance. Leo contributed heavily to the scoring, Kojo controlled the tempo of the game, Ahmed impressed on the fast break, Laith brought high energy throughout, Owais dominated defensively with key rebounds and stops, and Ayhem provided intelligent passing and link-up play.
Best of luck to the boys as they prepare for the final.
