Norlington Vs St Thomas More

Norlington Year 9s came up just short in the last 16 of the London Cup, losing 2-0 to a very strong St Thomas More side. The boys defended brilliantly throughout the game, conceding possession against a very well drilled team but staying compact, disciplined and organised, not allowing them any clear chances. When we did have the ball, we counter attacked with real intent and caused them problems, showing real maturity and tactical understanding. The game was 0-0 at half time, with both sides struggling to break each other down.

Just after the break, Musa Raza had a shot cleared off the line which would have put Norlington 1-0 up and completely changed the game. St Thomas More were growing increasingly frustrated as they struggled to find a way through our defence, and the match was very evenly balanced for long periods. In the end, all that separated the two sides was a wonder goal from 25 yards that was unstoppable, followed by a penalty which was converted. These were their only real chances in the game and Norlington can be proud of how few opportunities they allowed.

This was a fantastic achievement for the boys to reach this stage of the competition, especially after beating last years champions along the way. Man of the match was Ayhem Moustefauoi for an outstanding defensive performance and for his ability to turn defence into attack with his passing and driving forward runs, helping us transition quickly and create counter attacking opportunities. Well done boys, a performance to be proud of.
