Norlington School and Sixth Form

Norlington vs Leyton Sixth Form

Norlington returned to indoor action with another youthful and determined squad, featuring Ayaan (Year 9), Govind (Year 9), Azaan (Year 8), Ali Khan (Year 11), Shayan Farhat (Year 11), and Mohammed Murad (Year 10). Despite the significant age gap compared with the opposition, the boys once again showed heart, resilience and signs of continued growth as a new team.

Norlington’s innings began with early promise but was quickly disrupted by a sudden fall of wickets, putting the side under immediate pressure. The Leyton Sixth Form College bowlers maintained a disciplined line, forcing mistakes and limiting opportunities to rotate the strike.

However, Ayaan produced an excellent innings to steady the ship. Showing composure beyond his years, he rebuilt from a difficult position, top-scoring for Norlington and giving the team a competitive total to defend. Support from the rest of the order helped push the score to 93 from 10 overs, a respectable effort considering the early setbacks.

With the ball, Norlington once again showed flashes of real quality. Moments of magic from Shayan with two run outs as a result sharp fielding and great awareness in the cover reign. Supported by a fast reacting catch by Ali Khan at mid on. When the bowlers found their rhythm, they delivered several strong overs, creating pressure and forcing Leyton’s batters into mistakes.

But the challenge remained consistency. Indoor cricket punishes extras heavily, and although there were overs of real discipline, these were balanced out by overs that leaked too many runs. Finding that middle ground will be a key development focus for the squad moving forward.

Leyton Sixth Form College eventually chased down the target, finishing on 94 in 9 overs, sealing the win despite Norlington’s determined efforts.

Although the result did not go Norlington’s way, the performance again highlighted the promising potential within this young squad. The players are still learning to gel together, but each match brings clearer communication, better decision-making, and improved confidence.

This is a team steadily making progress, and with continued hard work and greater consistency in key moments, Norlington will only become more competitive as the season goes on.
