Norlington vs Newham College U18's
Norlington faced a strong Newham College side in the Essex Indoor Cricket competition, with Newham coming into the fixture as one of the leading teams in the tournament. Despite the final result, Norlington produced a committed and spirited performance against high-quality opposition.
Norlington were asked to bowl first and began the innings with good discipline. Ayaan set the tone early, bowling an excellent opening over that kept the scoring under control and immediately applied pressure to the Newham batters. The bowlers worked well together as a unit and were supported by energetic and focused fielding throughout the innings.
Shayan was a standout performer with the ball, taking important wickets and fielding very well. Wickets were shared across the team, highlighting a collective bowling effort. Yoosuf contributed with accurate bowling that helped build pressure, while Govind impressed with sharp fielding and a well-taken catch. Overall, Norlington claimed three wickets during the innings.
These additional runs allowed them to build momentum towards the end of the innings, and they finished on 176 for 3, setting Norlington a challenging target of 177 to win. In reply, Norlington started positively. Shayan opened the batting confidently, while Ayaan continued his strong all-round performance, batting with intent and striking a six and a four in quick succession. He showed composure and confidence against disciplined bowling. We held Newham college to 54 after four overs, but they edged us when we batted, restricting us to 7 after five overs.
However, Newham’s experience and consistency with the ball made scoring increasingly difficult, and wickets at regular intervals slowed Norlington’s progress. Further wickets followed as Newham tightened their lines and lengths. Norlington battled hard but were eventually restricted to 80 for 4, falling short of the target.
Although the result did not go Norlington’s way, there were clear positives in bowling discipline, fielding effort, and individual determination. Competing against such strong opposition will provide valuable experience as the team continues to develop.
