Norlington School and Sixth Form

U13 Essex Indoor Cricket Finals

Norlington competed in the Essex Indoor Cricket Finals at the Leyton County Ground.
The competition was played in a fast paced indoor format of 5 overs per side, with 4 balls per over, placing immediate pressure on players to make quick decisions. Runs could be scored by hitting the wall or running between the wickets, but with risk attached through catches off the wall and costly overthrows.
The U13s faced Chigwell in the semi final, played as a best of three series. Norlington started strongly with a win, showing composure and control.
The second game proved costly. In a tight contest, Norlington conceded 7 runs from the final ball due to some naive fielding, resulting in a one run defeat.
The third game ended in a nail biting draw, but Norlington progressed to the final having conceded fewer wickets across the three games.
In the final, Norlington faced Mayfield, again in a best of three format.
The first game was lost after not scoring enough runs, with the team unable to fully apply scoreboard pressure.
They responded brilliantly in the second game, posting an outstanding total of 70, demonstrating the level they are capable of reaching.
However, in the deciding game, pressure built and a number of small fielding errors allowed overthrows at key moments. This allowed Mayfield to regain control and ultimately secure the victory. Winning by just 1 run off the final ball.
A standout performer across the entire competition was Yahya, who was deservedly named U13 Player of the Tournament. His bowling, particularly against Chigwell, was exceptional and played a crucial role in the team’s progression.
While the result will feel frustrating, the performance showed clear quality. The experience will serve as an important step in the team’s development moving forward.
